I have an EZ Load trailer for my 17.5' center console. Total install time was about 6 hours. The most time consuming part was removing the old brakes, hubs, etc since the old bolts were pretty rusted on due to the saltwater usage on this 12 year old trailer. Even with penetrating oil it still took a lot of effort. Installation of the new system went very well and simple though. Note: new bearing buddies not included: I ordered the 1.98" ones made by Valley from Amazon and they worked great. The system works great. One other point to realize: there is a reverse lockout solenoid that disengages the brakes when you are backing up. My existing wiring was 4 pole but you need a 5th pole (reverse light) for this. So some extra wiring is required for mine at least. Highly recommend this set for brake replacement. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: TowZone Complete Disc Brake Kit with Actuator (Sports) These are the re-branded version of the popular, and more expensive, Tie Down Engineering version (Model # escapes me...) Very straight forward to install. I replaced OEM drum brakes on a '91 Zieman trailer. I had to grind off the actuator and drill new holes but that was the most difficult part of the install. I also had to swap the bearings to fit my axles. I had never done this before but a local shop who sold me the bearings told me how to do it... then I went-for-it... Let's say, 2nd one was much easier ;-) All in all very easy to do and all the parts are included, manuals are pretty straight forward and no special tools beyond a torque wrench. I did mine with the boat on the trailer so it was tight working arrangement but placement of the caliper was not a question. Everything fit, bolts had lock-tite and all went together well. I did hear from the local guy that he had to redo a set that had too much play in the caliper but mine had nothing like this. In fact, I couldn't see... It installs easy if you have the a helper and the boat is off the trailer. But a word of caution: If you install it without the boat on the trailer, make sure that when the trailer comes under full load that the frame doesn't interfere with the calibers. I installed at the 12:00 position, as recommended, and everything worked great . . . until I put the boat on the trailer. The torsion springs in my trailer deflected enough that the frame came down just behind the calibers, which kinked the brake lines, and could have pushed the calibers against the rotors. Had to have them reinstalled at the 3:00/9:00 positions professionally, because I didn't have jacks that could hold the trailer with the boat on it. |
