5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Options for a Perfect Price, February 17, 2010

I recently ordered a McNett Saturna blunt tip knife for my PFD and did some testing on it today. All I can say is wow!

It has a serrated edge, a straight edge, a blunt wedge for a nose, thumb and finger grip, locking multi directional sheath and can be utilized with one hand. I bought it from Amazon.com for $16 and shipping was free with a promo. Both sides cut well and tried to push through and cut with the blunt tip and it wont do it. I was able to unsheath it left or right handed regardless of which direction it was facing. It is made from 420 Stainless Steel and has eyes on the sheath and knife for securing if needed. I wont be using this as a bait knife but reckon it would do fine with that too. The sheath is made from Kydex and has a nylon molded handle. These come in black, orange and yellow. Well worth the $16 if you ask me.

This review is from: McNett Saturna Blunt Tip Outdoor and Dive Knife (Sports)
I bought this knife to hang on my BC for warm water scuba diving. The knife is compact, sharp, and it is held firmly in the sheath. The sheath provides several options for easy attachment to a BC. What I don't like is the poor corrosion resistance of the blade. As most divers do after completing their dives for the day at a dive resort (Cozumel), I submerged my entire BC with knife attached into a clean water rinse tank 2 or 3 times and let it drip off the excess water before putting it away in a storage bin for the next day's dives. I didn't think of drying the knife, as I never had to with my leg knife. By the morning of the 3 day, I noticed the the rivets on the sheath were totally rusted, and the knife blade had rust stains all over it as well. I was able to clean up most of the rust on the blade at the resort, but some deeper rust had to wait until I got home to my tools for a proper cleaning. The blade looks clean, but the rivets are still covered in rust. I suppose I can't... Read more

What I was looking for here was a kayaking safety knife. I knew up front that should I ever need to use it there was a good chance I would lose it. So, I bought the knife with the right features, and the lowest cost. The object of the knife if to be quickly assessable, and to be able to cut anything that is keeping you stuck before the current of the river crushes or drowns you.
So I was looking for Stainless steel, textured grip, blunt tip, rope notch.
Pros: has all required features main straight blade is nicely sharpened
Cons: Rope notch is a bit small and not sharp enough, Manufactures medallion fell off, but stuck right back on.

Overall Good value for the money, Especially when I only plan on using it once. If I was looking for a use every day knife or a survival knife this wouldn't be it.
