Baby boomer nostalgia or a timeless trip into the season? That question practically becomes mute when one tunes in to these classic TV Christmas cartoons that magically maintain their shelf life. There's Burl Ives singing "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" and the title track to the songs from the animated Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer show, along with that lovable "We're a Couple of Misfits." And with a handful of songs from A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Muppet Family Christmas, this CD is sure to connect with adults who remember first seeing these holiday shows on TV, as well as their kids who are seeing them for the 60th time on video. That said, ya gotta love a record that has the original "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch," as well as Fred Astaire doing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," and Jimmy Durante showboating his way through "Frosty the Snowman." Big fun for old and young. --Martin Keller

I, too, wish the Heat Miser song was on this one. It is noticeably missing. However, the preeminent version of the Grinch song is on this disc, sung by Boris Karloff (sp?). Others have recorded this song, but none can come close to matching Boris' tone and his ability to get that evil image of the Grinch's smirk bouncing around in your head. Plus, the Grinch song is a great one to play in the office at opportune moments when that not-so-nice boss walks in two hours later in the morning than you do. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful ![]() By A Customer This review is from: Nick at Nite's Classic Cartoon Christmas (Audio CD) You'd have to buy at least 5 CDs to replicate this collection, combining impossible to obtain and very available songs from TV Christmas Specials from the 1960's and 70's. You can't but smile at the unchristmasy, yet uplifting ditty, "Put One Foot In Front Of The Other" sung by Mickey Rooney & Keenan Wynn. And whose heart doesn't swell like the Grinch at the Whos overheard morning singsong, "Welcome Christmas"? A well-considered selection of songs from baby-boomer's Christmas memories in front of the television! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful ![]() A Kid's Review This review is from: Nick at Nite's Classic Cartoon Christmas / V (Blister) (Audio CD) I love listening to Christmas music and I like that this Christmas CD put out by the folks at Nick at Nite has songs from the Christmas specials I watched when I was little. This CD has songs like Frosty The Snowman, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reinder, Holly Jolly Christmas, We Need A Little Christmas, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch and many more and I highly recommend this CD! FYI: The Snow Miser and Heat Miser songs from The Year Without A Santa Claus are on the 2nd volume of the Nick at Nite Christmas CDs! It is called A Nick At Nite Christmas: Classic Cartoon Christmas Too. I know some people have complained about the song from The Muppet Family Christmas being included but I love that Christmas special and that song! |
